His father Liam, who is the professional at Waterville Golf Club, plays on the European Seniors Tour, while his uncle and brother are also professionals.David enjoyed a very successful amateur career, representing Ireland at boys and senior level. He won the Irish Amateur Championship and South of Ireland Championship in 1994, beating Padraig Harrington in both finals. Since turning professional that year David has played on both the European Tour and the Challenge Tour. He enjoyed a tremendous season on the 2005 Challenge Tour, with several top five finishes, coupled with a fourth place finish in the European Tour's Madeira Island Open. He completed the season in 12th place on the Challenge Tour rankings and guaranteed his full European Tour card for 2006. David brought his good form into the 2006 European Tour season, with a seventh place finish in the Indonesian Open the highlight of the year. He retained a category on the European Tour for 2007, where he will play for the entire season. |
